Previously with Christie’s for a Short Period | Ranked Among America’s Best Real Estate Agents by Real Trends
This week, we spotlight Jane Babcook, a top Sag Harbor agent who has returned to Brown Harris Stevens after a brief time at Christie’s. Jane shares why BHS feels like home, her insights on the Hamptons market, and what drives her success after 25+ years in real estate—plus a few personal highlights that make this year extra special.
You were at BHS, left for Christie’s for a short period, and then came back home this week… why did you decide BHS was best for your business?
After nearly 10 years with BHS, it truly feels like home. Even during my brief time away, I stayed close with my colleagues—we’ve shared everything from ski trips to dinners and local events. The camaraderie, professionalism, and integrity here are unmatched, and that’s why I knew this was where I needed to be.
How do you see the Sag Harbor and Hamptons market performing right now based on your recent client experiences?
March Madness isn't just for basketball—it’s our busiest month for both sales and rentals. Anyone hoping to be in by Memorial Day is actively looking right now. There’s definitely movement, but last week's stock market volatility has caused a few buyers I know to pause their searches. That said, the overall energy remains strong.
With 25+ years of experience, what’s your best advice to agents aiming to reach your level of success?
Be a great listener. I see so many new agents bring incredible energy and enthusiasm—which is wonderful—but sometimes, it’s just as important to slow down and really “read the room.”
With three dogs, where are your favorite places to take them out East, and why?
It depends on the season. In summer, we love early mornings at Clam Island—a sandy peninsula teeming with wildlife like ospreys, swans, and even the occasional bald eagle. In winter, I prefer more sheltered spots like the Long Pond Greenbelt between Sag Harbor and Sagaponack, or Barcelona Neck State Park, which offers incredible bluff-top views of Cedar Point and Shelter Island Sound.
What does it mean to be only the second woman to ever hold the position of director since its founding in 1899 at the prestigious Sag Harbor Yacht Club?
I was honored to be named to the Board of Directors at the SHYC in 2024. It’s a huge responsibility, and I’ve been assigned to several committees—one of my favorites being the Water Quality Committee. I’ve loved learning more about the health of our waters and how we can help improve our inner harbors.
As an avid equestrian, what are the main reasons equestrians absolutely love the Hamptons?
The equestrian set typically leaves Florida in the spring, and many of them have second—or even third—homes in the Hamptons. It’s a natural migration that brings energy and excitement to the area each year.

Many people are surprised to learn that I have an identical twin sister, Joan. We both share a deep love of horses, though her family has taken it to the highest level in the sport. I’m incredibly proud of their success—her daughter Charlotte recently won the Nations Cup representing the USA in Wellington, Florida, this past winter.
