Lara attended The Spence School and Poly Prep Country Day School. She studied at the University of Chicago and Connecticut College where she majored in history. After receiving her dual Master's Degree in both early childhood general and special education from Bank Street College of Education, she taught at Epiphany Community Nursery School, Poly Prep, and The Mandell Pre-School.
Lara is also an active member of The New York Junior League, the New York State Board of The Daughters of the British Empire, and The Spence School Alumni Board, as well as the St. George’s Society, the University of Chicago Alumni Association, the English Speaking Union, the Sorosis Society and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
