In 1996, Doug discovered a new unique product coming to market—Trump’s new luxury condo hotel. He was captivated by the idea of bringing this concept of the perfect pied-a-terre ownership to his clients and investors. Doug shared his vision with clients and sold more than a quarter of the 167 units before Trump International Hotel & Tower, located at 1 Central Park West, opened. He also purchased 2 suites for himself and became a founding member to the Hotel Board along with Donald Trump. He has since remained a board member for the past 18 years.
The following is a list of other select accomplishments that attest to Doug’s enduring success:
• A record 250 sales in the hotel portion of Trump International more than the combined Manhattan brokerage community.
• Sold 51 condos in the Galleria (110 East 57th), 53 in the Belaire (524 East 72nd) and 25 in Park Avenue Place (60 East 55th)
• Sold more than 65 cooperative apartments at 860/870 United Nations Plaza and 30 at 880 Fifth Avenue
• Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago engaged his services to analyze and implement ways to improve sales in the hotel. His analysis resulted in key recommendations that were put into effect. He also worked with and trained the sales staff. Sales became brisk and as a result of the changes, Doug ended up referring buyers who purchased 16 units, including the 6 most expensive two-bedroom units in the hotel.
A consistent top 10% sales broker at Brown Harris Stevens year after year, Doug joined the firm after a successful career as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch. Creative and inspired deals are what set him apart. Through his contacts and ingenuity, he was able to broker a $38 million bulk purchase for a high-end travel club with difficult short term usage requirements in a new development where they could purchase 20 two-bedroom units.
Doug is a business graduate from the University of Georgia where he had a tennis scholarship. He is an avid platform tennis player and holds over 20 national and world championship titles. He has written 2 books that were published on platform tennis and has sold numerous signature paddles. Doug was inducted into the Platform Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007.
Doug has lived in the same cooperative building for over 30 years. He has separately purchased 3 apartments in the building and combined and renovated them. He is also a past Board President, Treasurer, and currently Vice President of his co-op board.
