Cobble Hill is a small, laid-back neighborhood comprising 40 blocks in northwest Brooklyn. It offers easy access to the water and sits adjacent to Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, and Carroll Gardens. Most of the action takes place on Court Street, the community’s main artery lined with hip cafes, restaurants and boutiques. The neighborhood was named after a conically shaped hill located at the present-day intersection of Atlantic Avenue, Pacific Street and Court Street. The incline was known as 'Ponkiesbergh' to early Dutch settlers, which directly translates to “Cobble Hill.” Today, Cobble Hill is considered the wealthiest area in Brooklyn, and is often listed alongside upscale Manhattan communities like the Upper East Side and Soho as one of the most desirable locations in the city. Thanks to its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, pristine brownstones and stunning row houses, Cobble Hill has been designated as a historic district.

Cobble Hill is known for its well-preserved historic brownstones and row houses, meticulously built in a variety of important 19th-century architectural styles such as Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, early Romanesque Revival, and French Neo-Grecian. Low-scale zoning and landmark laws have helped preserve the area’s vintage aesthetic, enabling residents to feel as if they've been transported to a past era.
The neighborhood is characterized by beautiful, low-storied buildings, including many landmarked blocks of mid 19th- and early 20th-century townhouses.

I moved to Cobble Hill in 1988 and fell in love with the area. It was a great place to raise my three kids and be active in the public school system. The people I have met here and the friends I have made are so special.

I love the fact that Cobble Hill is in the heart of Americas First Suburb, and more than 100 years later it still feels like a haven. It is literally a different temperature here than in Manhattan when you come up out of the subway.

The neighborhood’s low vista shows off the steeples that gave Brooklyn its old nickname, ‘the City of Churches.’ In particular, there are two churches on Clinton Street worth visiting for their Tiffany windows and general beauty.
