In every corner of the Hamptons, women entrepreneurs are shaping the character, charm, and culture of our communities. From hospitality to high fashion and real estate, these women have built businesses that reflect their creativity, resilience, and deep local roots.

BHS Hamptons agents Amelia Doggwiler and Jane Holden share personal stories of women they admire—visionary business owners who have left a lasting impact on the East End. Whether reviving historic inns, creating coveted fashion destinations, or breaking barriers in real estate, these women-owned businesses are more than just successful ventures—they're woven into the very fabric of the Hamptons.

BHS Southampton agent Amelia Doggwiler shines a light on two exceptional women-owned businesses that hold a special place in her heart. One is The Baker House 1650 in East Hampton, owned by Antonella Bertello. Amelia and Antonella share deep roots—both were born and raised in Lima, Peru, and have called the Hamptons home for over 30 years.

Their bond goes beyond friendship, and Amelia proudly shares how Antonella transformed the historic property into one of the most elegant and sought-after boutique hotels in the area.

“The history, beauty, and elegance of this place is incomparable,” Amelia says, admiring Antonella’s vision and dedication.

Amelia also celebrates Marina Cocher, founder of Marina St. Barth Boutiques, which has grown from a humble beginning in a rented room above a restaurant in Bridgehampton to four luxury locations across Southampton, East Hampton, Palm Beach, and Naples. Known for her impeccable style and business savvy, Marina has created a destination for sophisticated, effortless fashion.

“Marina built one of the most desirable and successful boutiques through sheer determination, style, and charm.” — Amelia Doggwiler

BHS Hamptons agent Jane Holden shares a powerful tribute to a pioneering woman in Sag Harbor real estate: Nancy Martin Simonson. Having grown up in Sag Harbor, Jane recalls countless women who shaped the fabric of the village, but Nancy stands out as a true trailblazer.

“Nancy started her real estate firm (Simonson’s Real Estate) out of her house on Madison Street—the only one in the village owned and operated by a woman and staffed entirely by women.” — Jane Holden

Her journey wasn’t without challenges. After purchasing a Victorian building on Main Street to house her business, tragedy struck when a fire destroyed it along with neighboring landmarks. Yet Nancy's resilience never wavered. She rebuilt, eventually relocating to her father’s home on Bay Street, which she transformed into a welcoming office space across from Marine Park.

The property, 4 Bay Street in Sag Harbor Village is currently listed for sale with Brown Harris Stevens.

Jane had the honor of working alongside Nancy during the final years of her career and remembers her as a hardworking, warm, and determined leader.

These women-owned businesses are more than places to shop or stay—they’re reflections of passion, perseverance, and the unique spirit of the Hamptons and both Amelia and Jane are proud to celebrate the women who continue to inspire, lead, and shape our communities with heart and vision.
