Brown Harris Stevens, the nation’s premier privately held real estate brokerage, enthusiastically announces that Frederick Warburg Peters has joined the firm. Peters, who has been described in the real estate press as a “legend,” founded Warburg Realty in 1991 and guided it for 30 years of enormous success until 2021, when he sold it to Coldwell Banker. He began his real estate career in 1980 and has continued to be active as an agent throughout his career, having achieved lifetime sales well in excess of $1 billion.
Peters has been a passionate defender of the value of the role of the real estate agent and has mentored and supported many of the leading agents and managers in New York during his career.
“The choice of Brown Harris Stevens was an easy one for me,” said Peters. “Hall Willkie has been a peer and a good friend for decades, and Bess Freedman has steered the company through the 21st century with great skill, modernizing the agent experience while maintaining the high standards of integrity and ethics for which BHS has always been known.”
Peters has been the recipient of numerous awards from The Real Estate Board of New York (among many other institutions.) At REBNY, he was a founding member of the Residential Division and serves today on the Executive Committee of its Board of Governors. In 1996, he was awarded the Henry Forster Award for a lifetime of achievement and contribution to the residential industry; in January 2010, he received the prestigious Kenneth R. Gerrety Humanitarian Award for meritorious service to the community; and in May 2023, Peters received The Eileen Spinola Award for Distinguished Service, honoring his significant contributions to the REBNY community in education, ethics and professional services. He is the only broker in New York to have received all three awards.
Additionally, Peters was the first real estate practitioner in the country invited to write a regular column for Forbes which he plans to keep as he steps into his new role at Brown Harris Stevens.
“Fred is synonymous with New York City real estate and we are honored that he has chosen to continue his meteoric career with us at Brown Harris Stevens,” said CEO Bess Freedman. “His reputation and knowledge of the city, its buildings, and its people are beyond reproach. I look forward to working with him in this next chapter.”
Peters will be based out of Brown Harris Stevens’ flagship 445 Park Avenue office.
