Friday’s decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe V. Wade has fueled high emotions on both sides of the political aisle. For me, personally, these events have left me distraught and perplexed, and I needed time to collect my thoughts in order to appropriately address this egregious reversal of justice. As I write this, I am still processing the new reality that I had more rights as a woman than my daughter has today.

It is no secret where I stand on this issue: I firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose.

Friday’s decision stripped women of that constitutional right on a federal level—a right that stood in place for 50 years. Reproductive rights are now in the hands of the states, some of which already had trigger laws on the books to make abortion illegal. That said, if a member of the BHS family lives in one of our regions that restricts access to abortion, Brown Harris Stevens will provide up to $4,000 in travel expense reimbursement so that you can travel to the nearest location where that care is legally and safely provided.

Below is a list of organizations accepting donations to help protect and preserve reproductive freedom:

Planned Parenthood
National Black Women’s Reproductive Agenda
NARAL Pro Choice America
National Abortion Federation
Center for Reproductive Rights
Guttmacher Institute
National Women's Law Center
The United State of Women's Reproductive Justice Hub

Sometimes justice is slow—and the journey painful—but I believe that it will prevail.

Take care of each other.

Bess
