Janet Gifford has been in the real estate industry for over 20 years, originally as an agent with Hahn & Mann Realty and then as a principal with Hahn and Gifford Realty where she was the annual winner of the office’s top sales awards. The latter firm was bought by Prudential MLB Kaye International. She is consistently one of the top producing brokers in West Side Office of Brown Harris Stevens.
She is also the proud mother of two married daughters and has two adorable grandchildren (are there any other kind?) Both daughters are attorneys and reside in North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and Arizona (Mesa).
Before raising her two daughters she worked as a registered representative for two Wall Street firms and eventually part-time as the Administrator of a psychological institute affiliated with A.K. Rice Institute.
Her major charity is the Goddard Riverside Community Center which benefits the city’s youth, older adults and homeless people. She is on the Board of their Annual Book Fair. She is also on the Board of the Institute for Contemporary Psychology (ICP) a mental health organization. Janet is also a board member of the West Side Committee of the Real Estate Board of New York.
Janet was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a degree in Economics. Several years ago when the Canadian Consulate was looking for new accommodations, she was made their sole representative.
She has sold in all price ranges from lowest to the very highest priced cooperatives, condominiums, townhouses and investment properties. Her youngest buyer was an emancipated 13-year old and her oldest was a 93-year-old woman. Her clients have included celebrities, business titans, young couples, empty-nesters, large and small families and far-sighted singles.
Janet is held in high esteem by her fellow brokers for her deep knowledge of Manhattan real estate and her willingness to help others. Her favorite expression is “sold and closed.”
