Christine Merritt grew up on Long Island in the lovely town of Garden City and in a small coastal community on the North Fork called Nassau Point. After completing elementary and high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, she went off to Newton College of the Sacred Heart just outside of Boston (now Boston College). She stayed in Boston for a year after graduation doing research for a Harvard Professor of Psychology at Mass General Hospital. She then headed for New York to pursue her dream, to travel, and went to work for Pan American, a great airline at that time. She lived on the Upper East Side with four Newton College roommates and spent every dime on travel. In 1969, she got married and moved to the Upper West Side with her husband.
Six years and two little boys later, Chris and her husband found Darien, Connecticut and bought their first and only house. They have been in the same home now for 40+ years. They raised their three children there, all of whom went through the Darien school system and on to great colleges. During those years, Chris was very involved in the various PTAs, chaired local fundraisers, sang in the Blue Notes (a local four-part harmony singing group), and became one of the many parent cheerleaders for her children’s numerous sporting endeavors. She went back to work when the children got older, first in the travel industry and then with an educational consultant in New Canaan. After her oldest son graduated from high school, Chris entered the world of real estate.
Chris has been in real estate in Darien and Rowayton for over 20 years and is presently a member of the Darien MLS board as well as the Greater Fairfield County CMLS board. She has always been a top producer both at Brown Harris Stevens (originally Halstead) and at her previous firm. She was awarded Halstead's President's Council Designation for the year 2010 and is a Gold Circle Member.
When Chris is not practicing real estate, she loves to get together with her very active family. They all love the great outdoors, skiing in Vermont and out west, hiking, golfing, and, of course, traveling. Chris loves a good book, a good movie, a good restaurant, and most of all, living only 50 minutes from New York City! Chris has the best of all worlds in Darien: a great coastline, beaches, sailing, and direct commute to New York. She loves her town and she loves to sell her town.
