A quintessential New England suburb with a charming downtown, sense of community and plenty of cultural activities, New Canaan is an easy train ride away from New York City. The sophisticated Lower Fairfield County community was home to the “Harvard Five” in the 1940s, five visionary architects who used New Canaan as their experimental playground for their mid-century modern designs, building more than 80 homes here.

Previously home to the “Harvard Five,” New Canaan is truly the architectural gem of Connecticut’s Gold Coast. You'll find some of the country’s most important and impeccable examples of mid-century modern residences. In addition, you’ll also find historic New England colonials and farmhouses, stately Colonial Revival-style mansions, single-family homes, luxury condominiums, and so much more.
This bucolic New England community has lifestyle options for a variety of ages and interests. You can enjoy the tranquility of suburban New England living as well as the sophistication of a town with easy access ti New York City.
New Canaan is a bucolic and sophisticated New England community with lifestyle options and activities for a variety of ages and interests. Its the only lower Fairfield County town with easy access to NYC trains that doesnt have a major route cutting through the town. Totally walkable and very vibrant!

New Canaan is celebrated for its serene and peaceful natural environment: winding trails shrouded in leafy green trees, colorful birds melodically whistling, and vibrant botanical gardens straight out of a fairytale. The town has endless amounts of nature to explore and recreational activities to enjoy.
Waveny Park and its historic ‘1912 castle’ is one of New Canaans most well-known landmarks. It provides 300 acres of beautiful parkland with flowering meadows, serene gardens, a fountain, and a pond, with weekly concerts on the back terrace of the mansion during the summer months.

In addition to its stunning displays of modern architecture, New Canaan also offers a variety of visual and performing arts centers and fun community activities. Notable sites include the Glass House, built by Philip Johnson, the Silvermine Arts Center, Carriage Barn Arts Center, and Grace Farms.
New Canaan offers an excellent dining scene, with a diverse selection of restaurants that range in both cuisine and atmosphere. For seasonal American menus to Peruvian fare, contemporary Italian eats, and tasty vegan options, you can find what you’re looking for.
New Canaan has an excellent selection of restaurants with plenty of options that range in both cuisine and atmosphere. My top favorites include Elm, Sole, and Spiga – all consistently excellent!

Though New Canaan is known for its country clubs rather than its nightclubs, there are a handful of bars and local venues that offer a wide selection of libations and live entertainment. Sports bar White Buffalo is a hometown favorite, while Tequila Mockingbird in the heart of downtown is perfect for tequila lovers.
Recently opened is Backstreet with a fun lively atmosphere serving elevated Mexican fare and great margs!

The area surrounding the New Canaan train station serves as the town center. Here, you’ll find a multitude of high-end clothing brands like Ralph Lauren, Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, and Ann Taylor, as well as unique boutiques and specialty shops like Beach Corner and the Elm Street Bookstore. Also located here are two major grocery stores, including Walter Stewart’s and a popular farmers market.
Some people visit from other areas just for the shopping and New Canaan’s beautiful town center.
