The picturesque coastal town of Darien is the smallest town on Connecticut's Gold Coast. Rolling hills, indigenous trees, and open land dot the landscape of this town nestled on the shoreline of the Long Island Sound. With a rich history and close-knit community, Darien boasts many local traditions and events, as well as an active town center—all less than an hour's train ride away from Manhattan.

Darien's homes offer authentic New England charm, with many colonial and cape-style homes found in the town. Stone homes and farmhouses are also part of Darien's housing stock, in addition to some newer mixed-use developments.
With so much history surrounding Darien, I find that homes here have numerous styles including colonials, antiques, stone homes (Frazier Peters), and farmhouses, to name a few, and they all have unique architectural details that make them so special.

One thing that caught my eye when I first came to Darien was the authentic New England charm and colonial and cape-style homes. I’m also looking forward to the town’s new mixed-use renovations, including the Darien Commons and the Corbin Project, which will include many top-tier shops and restaurants.

I love the small-town feel of Darien. I’ve lived here for almost 50 years and raised my family in the town that I love. I’m so lucky because my children have also chosen Darien as their home and I have grandchildren in town as well.

The coastline epitomizes and defines outdoor recreation in Darien. You can enjoy endless outdoor activities here, from boating and sailing to hiking, tennis, pickleball, and of course, some of the most attractive beaches in the region.
I love Darien’s openness: rolling hills, pasture and horse land, indigenous trees and shrubs, parks, beaches, and breathtaking views of Long Island Sound.

Landmarks of this history-rich town include the Mather Homestead, a home built during the Revolutionary War, and the Hindley Battleground. Local cultural attractions range from the Darien Historical Society and Darien Library.
The Mather Homestead was built during the Revolutionary War and is considered one of the finest examples of 18th-century architecture. The home was previously owned by Stephen Mather, the founder and first Director of the National Park Service, and today it is a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.

A favorite landmark in Darien is the Hindley battleground. Presently, it is an elementary school that my children attended. Historically, it is the site of a skirmish during the American Revolution between local patriots and raiding Tories. You can still see the stone walls at the corner where several patriots were ambushed.

There is no shortage of fantastic dining options in Darien, from authentic New England cuisine at Ten Twenty Post to Scena Wine Bar and Parlor Pizza.
While there are many new restaurants coming into town, The Goose has been a local favorite for years.

Try Scena for lunch.

Locals often spend their evenings at Darien's bars and bistros, which include The Goose and Scena Wine Bar.
We love 1020 Post, right in the center of town! You feel like youre in the action while enjoying delicious oysters under warm bistro lights. They have a bustling bar, which brings in all ages to meet and enjoy!

While Darien is a small town, it has a plethora of shopping options, as well as a Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. The Darien Sport Shop is a popular shopping destination, and boutiques like Everything is Rosey offer coastal-inspired clothing and gift items.
