Home to Woodstock Festival co-founder and legendary music industry icon Michael Lang for 45 years, this Mt. Tremper compound boasts a pedigree that dates back to the 1920s. Originally built for the artist G. Adolph Anderson, the 17 acre estate features three architecturally significant & historic structures; The spacious main house, stylish guest house and sweet cottage are all made from stone and imagination, with the original home designed by prominent architect A.M. Bedell in 1929 and the additional residential buildings following in 1933.

Entering the primary residence is to step into history. The stunning double-height great room with balcony has played host to renowned artists of every stripe through the decades, with the inspired design detail easily matched by the art and music created within its walls. In this wing you will find an office, two powder rooms & upper level bedroom and library. Just past a massive bluestone fireplace, a central foyer leads into a formal dining room with mountain views, a country cooks kitchen, breakfast area and an open-plan family room with another massive fireplace with wood stove & built-in bread oven with more verdant views across the cool grass and pergola-covered patio just outside French doors. Strolling the grand light-filled hallway will take you to 3 oversized bedroom suites, including the romantic primary, as well as a reading room found behind magnificent stained glass doors with 3 walls of window seats overlooking the lawn below. Connecting this wing of the home is a spectacular conservatory within a 24-foot glass ceiling, the perfect place to cultivate plants, paint a masterpiece or simply dream big.

Across the central courtyard framed by a wide, mature birch tree is a two bedroom guesthouse that holds pure design treasure. An oversized living room flooded with light leads into a den with a special bluestone fireplace and a striking built-in collection of Fu dogs and wood-carvings on gilded plaques collected from travels to China that depict an epic story. There is also a charming dining area and full kitchen.

The third stone structure is a two bedroom fully-outfitted cottage that has been stylishly updated, and is connected to a three-bay garage and a greenhouse ready to be either restored or turned into a Romanesque walled garden. Additional structures include a tool shed and three-stall barn, as well as an enchanting picnic pavilion sited up on a knoll with views of Slide Mountain, the tallest peak of the Catskills.

The estate is truly park-like, with paths, stone walls, orchards, fields of wildflowers and a centerpiece large pond with its own art island that showcases a sculpture by Michael Lang. For hot summer days you can enjoy a swim in the 53 x 40 oval lined cement pool while gazing at the mountains in the distance. Mt.Tremper has long been a special community located just minutes from both Woodstock and Phoenicia, so an afternoon spent tubing the Esopus or an evening at the revitalized Bearsville Theatre is almost as easy as the thought itself.
