From the rise of hybrid and remote work to evolving conversations around productivity, wellness, and mental health, the line between home and office design continues to blur. With trends moving away from traditional "cubicle" design models, creating spaces that balance form and function is essential—not just for productivity but also for fostering team-building and innovation.

For the team at Churchill Living, a luxury furniture rental service offering complementary relocation, real estate, and temporary housing solutions, the focus is on crafting thoughtful, high-design environments that blend comfort with functionality. Following our recent Darien office redesign, we sat down with Talia Malizia, Churchill's Director of Business Development, to discuss the latest trends impacting office design. Whether it's curating furniture for a home office or outfitting a collaborative workspace, these approaches and examples are bound to be helpful to anyone embarking on their design journey.

Resimercial

"'Resimercial'" design has been trending for years but has sprouted wings with people & businesses all over the world taking to this concept and LOVING IT! It is a design style that seeks to elevate spaces to balance the comfort of home with professionalism of the workplace" - Talia Malizia

She added that blending aspects of residential and commercial design can greatly improve workplace wellness and productivity, resulting in "game-changing" results. Moreover, the harmonious aesthetic is here to say, with Malizia forecasting its popularity well into 2025 and beyond.

Custom Zones

These are "zones within a space that offer private conversations in a relaxed environment; quiet places to hold important meetings while simultaneously maximizing the workspace," Malizia explained. The spaces can showcase company marketing and literature and heighten results from solo or team-oriented work.

Mood Design

"What is really trending in 2024? ENERGY! Color can have a significant impact on mood and well-being. This is the art of influencing human emotions (energy in motion) with components like color, lighting, layout, texture, accessories, art. For example, natural light automatically boosts & uplifts spirits." - Talia Malizia

Colors like yellow and orange can be vibrant and evoke feelings of happiness  and optimism, while blues of various hues can enhance relaxation and foster lasting partnerships through thoughtful collaboration.

Biophilic Design

The concept behind Biophilic Design is to connect people with nature through organic elements, sustainable materials, and more. "This style promotes health and performance," Malizia said.  "It also reduces the number of sick days & stress while making the office environment more attractive to job candidates."

To make your space more "biophilic" consider incorporating soothing, earthy tones, plants, water features, and natural light.

We at BHS were excited to have Churchill Living provide a design refresh to our Darien office, reflective of the area's breezy, coastal appeal and natural beauty.

We perfectly accented the space and zones with a hybrid mix of styles to create the ultimate inviting workspace that is multi-functional. You will be greeted with beautiful aesthetics weaving in touches of the local vibe, pristine pops of white for purity and light & delicate accents that catch your gaze. We also featured a screen upon entrance so guests can stay up to date with all the BHS information fluidly streaming. - Talia Malizia

The space is ideal for meetings and presentations while offering stations for employees who work remotely or hybrid.  "Everyone has complimented the space that has been given new life and guaranteed to optimize productivity & well-being," Malizia exclaimed.
