Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) has been a beacon of hope and support for the LGBTQ+ community since its inception. Established in 1988, Broadway Cares was quick and effective in mobilizing the creative energy and passion of the Broadway community to combat the AIDS crisis. Over the years, this NYC non-profit organization has grown exponentially, extending its reach and impact far beyond its initial mission.
“Outside of funding AIDS research, Broadway Cares offers relief and support throughout the NYC community for a variety of causes, from food grants and raising funds for arts education to animal welfare." – Doug Eichman, Brown Harris Stevens Agent and Longtime, Active Broadway Cares Member
Initially formed through the merging of two industry-based organizations – The Producers' Group for AIDS and Equity Fights AIDS – Broadway Cares soon became a cornerstone of philanthropic efforts within the performing arts community. Its influence spans across the nation, addressing not only the urgent needs related to AIDS and HIV but also a broader spectrum of social issues. As an organization, Broadway Cares has raised over $300 million, thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers, donors, and participants.
BC/EFA is renowned for its dynamic and creative fundraising events, including the beloved Broadway Bares, a burlesque-inspired show that combines spectacular performances with a powerful message of solidarity and support. This year’s Broadway Bares promises to be an unforgettable evening, filled with dazzling performances and heartfelt moments, all aimed at raising critical funds for those in need.
As we celebrate Pride Month and look forward to the much-anticipated Broadway Bares 2024, the legacy of Broadway Cares stands as a testament to the power of community and the enduring impact of collective goodwill.
