If you are searching for the perfect, photo-worthy destination to experience the best of fall, look no further than the Hudson Valley. The wooded region's lush foliage blossoms with color during the fall months, allowing you to admire the season's natural beauty against sweeping meadows and staggering mountain ranges. The area is also home to countless farms and recreation areas offering a variety of seasonal comforts, from hayrides and apple picking to hot cider and fresh produce.
Whether you're an out-of-stater looking for a seasonal retreat or an NYC resident longing to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, there is plenty for you to do and see in the Hudson Valley during the fall months. Here are a few activities and destinations to consider.
Apple Picking
Prime apple picking season in the Hudson Valley runs through November.
A beloved regional tradition among locals and visitors alike, there are over 30 orchards throughout the region that open their gates for locals looking to bring home baskets of the seasonal fruit.
Not too far from our Brown Harris Stevens Rhinebeck Office are the Cedar Heights Orchards, which have been featured in Country Living. The orchards offer Gala, Jonamac, Cortland, Red Delicious, and Liberty varieties, along with certain types native to the region, like the Classic New England Baldwin and the Northern Spy.
Pumpkin Patches
A delightful activity for all ages, pumpkin patches can be found at several of the family-run farms in the Hudson valley.
One popular choice is Pierson's Farm. Set on 270 acres, the farm is owned an operatd by a 7th-generation member of the Pierson family of farmers.
In addition to multiple pumpkin patches, the farm features two mazes (one sunflower and one corn), weekend hayrides for children, hot cider---best paired with the farm's homemade cider doughnuts---and local jams and syrups. Its an ideal place to spend the day having fall fun with loved ones.
Scenic Getaways
The Hudson Valley is home to one-of-a-kind retreats, from quaint bed and breakfasts to mountainside resorts.
Situated atop a mountain just outside of New Paltz is a destination straight out of the pages of a storybook. Founded in 1829, the Mohonk Mountain House is a Victorian-style resort and National Histooric landmark surrounded by 40,000 acres of pristine forest.
Along with farm-to-table meals and a relaxing spa, guests can embark on several outdoor activities, including kayaking, bouldering, archery, and guided nature tours.
