The charming neighborhood of New Canaan is arguably at its most picturesque this time of year, with fall foliage in full bloom and a wealth of seasonal events happening throughout the area. New Canaan, however, is more than just a quaint New England town. Along with exceptional homes and estates, it features some of the region's best boutiques, dining, and recreation areas.
Whether you're visiting from out of town or enjoying a Saturday "staycation," this guide—compiled by BHS Connecticut agent Diana Demirjian—will help ensure you make the most of your day.
"I like to start my day with an energizing cup of loose leaf black tea and a brisk walk around Mead Park pond, which is especially beautiful at this time of year." — Diana Demirjian
After her scenic walk and tea, Demirjian recommends Natural Nail Lounge, "for a relaxing treatment." The contemporary salon offers a serene ambiance and carries vegan, cruelty-free brands. "The LCN pedicure is lovely!" she added.
The next stop is the New Canaan Farmers Market, where you can find ultra-fresh seasonal goodies, as well as prepared foods and unique artisanal products that make excellent gifts and decorations. Are you looking to create a stunning Thanksgiving centerpiece? Or perhaps you are in search of the perfect pie pumpkins for your recipe? The Farmers Market has it all!
Once you've worked up an appetite at the Farmers Market, it's time for a late lunch. Demirjian's favorite spot is Solé, an Italian restaurant with an extensive food menu and an equally exciting libation list. "The Linguini Fini is easily the best in town, and the Garden Cooler is sure to impress," she said. For a cozy fall meal, try the Butternut Squash Ravioli, made with brown butter, sage, walnuts, and mountain gorgonzola.
To unwind, take a stroll down the charming Elm Street—not to be confused with Freddy Kreuger's former stomping grounds! A quintessential New England block, its brick sidewalks and hanging flowerpots set the tone for a leisurely, luxurious shopping excursion. Whether searching for home decor, couture fashion, books, or flowers, the street has it all!
"The Whitney Shop carries fine china and even has a baby section where you can order bespoke children’s gifts. Brad and Vandy Reh has gorgeous estate jewelry, and the Ralph Lauren store will have you outfitted in timeless sartorial elegance. Don’t forget to stop at Earth Garden florists to bring a little slice of nature back into your home." — Diana Demirjian
With its family-friendly offerings, lush landscapes, and charming town center, New Canaan is simply a lovely place to live or visit, especially during fall!
