The month of May is dedicated to Mental Health Awareness, with the purpose of not only supporting those who struggle with mental illnesses, but also educating the public about various mental health conditions.

Here are three prominent organizations that you can support during Mental Health Awareness Month, all of which work year-round to promote mental well-being nationwide.

The Trevor Project

This incredible organization, formed in 1994 by film producers Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone, is the leading national organization providing suicide prevention and crisis intervention serves to those in the LGBTQ community, from the ages of 13 to 24 years old. Inspired by the Academy Award-winning short film “Trevor” and its main character, a struggling LGBTQ teen, the organization has been appointed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a leader in National Action Alliance for crisis intervention.

Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA)

This international nonprofit membership organization, founded in 1979, is devoted to the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety and depression, as well as trauma-related disorders. They are also dedicated to the continuous education, practice, and research surrounding the complexities of anxiety and depressive disorders, making it their missing to improve the quality of life for those that suffer from these disorders.

The National Federation of Families

The National Federation of Families has become one of the most well-known non profits in the United States. This national, parent-run organization is devoted to supporting, assisting, and speaking on the behalf of children who struggle with emotional, behavioral, or mental health conditions, while extending the same support to the families of those in need. As advocates that work alongside other family-run organizations, the National Federation of Families has fought hard for the inclusion of the family’s voice when it comes to mental health services in a clinical, educational, and community setting at all times.
